VOTE LUCYSHYN FOR LANGDON
Rocky View County surrounds four urban centres—Calgary, Chestermere, Airdrie, and Cochrane. With such proximity, there is no need for our county to replicate the same style of development. People choose to live in Rocky View for something different, and I am committed to honoring that choice. I will work diligently to keep growth focused within approved development areas, respecting the distinct character of each. We are not our urban neighbours, and I will ensure our decisions reflect that respecting regional partnerships while preserving the rural character that defines us.
Rocky View County has taken important steps toward responsible growth, including the development of an asset management strategy and an increase in off-site levies for transportation, water, and stormwater. These are positive moves—but they’re just the beginning. Utilities have proven to be a major challenge for the current council, and I’m committed to ensuring this issue is addressed fairly for all users. Development must pay for itself. Taxpayers should not bear the burden of infrastructure costs that serve new growth. We need proactive planning that puts infrastructure in place before it’s needed—not after—and ensures that our rural character is protected while we grow responsibly.
For too long, public engagement in Rocky View felt like a box-checking exercise rather than a genuine effort to hear residents. That’s beginning to change—Administration is starting to incorporate feedback into its recommendations. But it’s up to Council to ensure that input is truly respected and reflected in decisions. I believe we must go further. Residents deserve to be informed and involved in issues that affect them. Outside of my commitment to listen and represent your input, I will advocate for more town halls, better surveys that ask meaningful questions, and stronger accountability to ensure public voices shape the future of our county.
Rocky View County is currently developing a servicing management framework to better understand the true cost of delivering services. I fully support this work and will advocate for its continuation. We also need a clear understanding of our debt and a commitment to using tax dollars wisely. Every dollar must be spent with purpose—on projects that deliver the highest value and are backed by thoughtful planning. I will push for transparent financial decisions that protect taxpayers and ensure long-term sustainability.
While schools fall under provincial jurisdiction, their locations are determined by municipalities—and that makes local leadership critical. I am committed to ensuring that land is set aside for appropriate school sites as our communities grow. I will work closely with Rocky View Schools to address the current space crisis and advocate for additional provincial support. Our children deserve access to quality education close to home, and I will do everything I can to make sure county planning and advocacy reflects that priority.
Rocky View County’s Family and Community Support Services Board plays a vital role in funding programs that enhance the social and mental well being of residents. In Langdon, this includes valuable initiatives like Synergy for youth, as well as senior programs that foster connection and support. I am committed to not only continuing this funding but expanding it. We also need to invest in programs that offer meaningful social opportunities for residents of all ages and needs. Strong communities are built through connection, and I will work to ensure those opportunities are accessible and well-supported.
There are several high-risk intersections near Langdon that have safety concerns. I am committed to advocating on behalf of our community and having Rocky View work with the Province to address these safety concerns. I will push for traffic studies, improved signage, and necessary infrastructure upgrades to make these intersections safer for all road users. The safety of our residents must be a top priority.
I am committed to ensuring that new developments in Rocky View County are designed with environmental sustainability at the forefront. I will work to ensure County zoning regulations protect natural habitats and wildlife corridors, as well as require environmental impact assessments for all new developments. Public infrastructure must meet green-building standards, and I will support initiatives like tree planting, improved waste management, and habitat restoration in developed areas. New development must also be carefully managed to minimize the loss of valuable agricultural land and to reduce strain on existing communities and infrastructure. These efforts are essential to preserving our natural environment while accommodating thoughtful growth.
Community safety is a growing concern in Rocky View County, and I believe we must strengthen our partnerships with local law enforcement and neighborhood watch programs. I support the creation of a Community Safety Task Force to prioritize crime prevention strategies, including increased police patrols in high-risk areas and sustainable funding for grassroots safety initiatives. With rising mental health challenges, we also need county-level crisis intervention services and stronger community-based support networks to address the root causes of criminal behavior. Safety isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about prevention, compassion, and collaboration.
Many residents have shared concerns about the quality of County services—particularly in planning, road maintenance, and enforcement. Getting a permit requires jumping through endless hoops. Road maintenance is subpar. Enforcement seems to be stretched thin. A resident feedback system would allow issues to be reported directly, and quarterly reviews could track progress and gather suggestions for ongoing improvement. Residents deserve responsive, accountable service—and I’m committed to making that a priority.
