While out door knocking, a number of residents asked about operating golf carts and recreational vehicles within Langdon. Is it possible to make that change.
Yes it is possible! by amending the Roads and Transportation Bylaw (C-8427-2023).
Sections 13 and 14 of the Traffic Safety Act give municipalities the authority to make rules about how off-highway vehicles—such as ATVs or snowmobiles—can be used on roads they are responsible for. These sections also allow local councils to create bylaws that regulate and control both vehicle and pedestrian traffic within their communities.
There are a number of municipalities across Alberta and Canada that allow for the operation of golf carts and recreational vehicles (even the Alberta Government has a pilot program):
- Coaldale, Alberta
- Huron‑Kinloss, Ontario
- Canora, Saskatchewan
- Acme, Alberta
- Linden, Alberta
- Delburne, Alberta
- County of Lacombe, Alberta
- Rural Municipality of Hoodoo No. 401, Saskatchewan
- Municipality of Lakeshore, Ontario
FYI … current restrictions you might not have heard about … hmmm?
- Repairing vehicles on roadway is a $250.00 fine
- Placing snow from private property onto public place of the County is a $250.00 fine.
- Using bicycles, skates, etc. on a sidewalk is a $250.00 fine
