As I’ve been knocking on doors and speaking with fellow Langdonites, opinions are mixed—some are in favor and others are opposed. But the common concern amongst all that I have talked is how does Langdon retain its small town vibe and how will growth take place. Below are some development plans that are already been approved, as well as proposed projects for Langdon and nearby areas:
Already Approved (as of Sept 2025):
- Bridges of Langdon
- Boulder Creek Estates
- Langdon Meadows
- Painted Sky
- Mornington
- Leland Business Park
Pending Approval (as of Sept 2025):
- Langdon East Conceptual Scheme (amended)
Note that under the new Area Structure Plan Amendments approved by the previous council, the expansion of Langdon’s Area Structure Plan, includes lands to the west and south and is slated for an additional 1,955 residential units and 125 acres of non-residential development. At the moment Langdon has approximately approximately 2000 addresses.
Other major infrastructure and industrial development around/near Langdon includes:
Wild Rose Power Hub Area Structure Plan: is a developer-led plan for a large data center site located southwest of Langdon. The ASP outlines the specific land use and servicing policies for the nearly 480-acre site, which is adjacent to existing electrical substations.
De Havilland Field (in Wheatland county) : A significant industrial development featuring the final assembly for De Havilland aircraft, anticipated to create around 1,500 jobs and position Langdon as a residential hub for its employees.
Prairie Gateway Area Structure Plan: A major logistics hub near Indus that will support the CANAMEX trade corridor by connecting rail networks across North America.
To summarize it all:
The Langdon plan area is positioned along Centre Street and extends approximately one mile east and west from Centre Street, encompassing approximately 15 quarter sections for a total of 947 hectares (2,340 acres).
The County adopted the first ASP for Langdon in April 1999 to respond to the growth pressures facing the community, which were also subsequently amended in 2009 and 2013. In 2014, the County prepared a new ASP to replace the Langdon ASP to consider boundary expansion and ensure compliance with the Municipal Development Plan (the County Plan). This ASP amendment was approved in 2016 and added approximately 950 acres of land to Langdon and established a future study area for lands that could be considered for future expansion.
On November 28, 2023, Council approved the Terms of Reference for a developer-led and developer-funded Langdon ASP amendment to include an additional four quarter sections into the hamlet boundary.
