Thank you to the Langdon OK Club for inviting me to speak this past Tuesday and giving me the opportunity to answer questions about my platform and priorities if elected. I truly appreciate your concerns and understand your frustrations.
One issue that was raised during our conversation was the lack of a community swimming pool. Many of you expressed that such a facility would be a valuable and welcome addition to the recreational amenities in Langdon. With our growing population of young families, as well as an aging demographic, an aquatic facility would provide benefits to all Langdonites—something everyone could enjoy without the need for a waiting list.
Currently, the Recreation & Parks Master Plan does not include any costing or mention of an aquatic facility. However, it does reference the development of indoor and outdoor recreational amenities in hamlets expected to grow beyond a population of 5,000.
Note: Langdon’s population exceeded 5,000 nearly a decade ago (back in 2016, according to Stats Canada).
In doing some research into the potential cost of an aquatic facility, I came across a 2023 cost/benefit analysis. Please note that the figures would need to be adjusted for local pricing, but it serves as a good starting point for discussion.
